Palawan Underground River needs our votes
Ambassador Libran Cabactulan of the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations is counting on the support of every global Filipino to make the Puerto Princesa Underground River one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
We have until November 11 to cast our votes. Here’s a link to the site: www.un.int/philippines.
“The Puerto Princesa Underground River is truly a marvel of nature,” said the ambassador. “Unesco itself has recognized the many wonders of the Underground River, and its ecosystem which is one of the most unique in the world.”
A press statement has Unesco praising the PPUR’s extraordinary features: “It has a spectacular limestone landscape; it represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation; it contains a full mountain to the sea ecosystem; and it protects forests, which are among the most significant in Asia.”
Bernard Weber, president and founder of the New 7 Wonders congratulated the supporters of the PPUR for their “passionate and inspiring work” in bringing up the underground river from over 441 participants into the finalist group of 28 entries.
“This is an ordinary achievement and in the eyes of the planet will be upon Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National park and the Philippines in the next two years,” he said in a statement. “We look forward to an exciting and record-breaking final race, with the whole world coming together to choose the official new seven wonders of nature, seven locations that will be part of global memory forever.”
The breathtaking paradise is said to be the longest navigable underground river in the world at 8.2 kilometers, and is one of the reasons Palawan has won recognition for its support for ecotourism.
Hi and thanks for posting this. This is something we Pinoys should support.
