Nine manufacturing companies from the Philippines exhibited in Kosherfest, the largest
business-to-business trade event for the Kosher industry, held at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in New Jersey from November 14 to 15.

The U.S. kosher market generates over $12 billion in annual sales, according to the OU (Orthodox Union) Kosher kosher certification agency website. The company says more than 12 million American consumers choose Kosher food products for reasons related to “health, food safety, taste, vegetarianism, lactose intolerance, and other dietary restrictions.” OU has certified more than 800,000 products from 100 countries.

“This is a promising niche market for the companies that are part of the delegation, especially since we are offering products that are not available from other exhibitors,” said Director Senen Perlada of the Export Marketing Bureau.

He was referring to the innovative coconut oil and coconut sugar, pili nuts snacks, corn rice and other specialty grains, and dried tropical fruits and juices being promoted at the Philippine booth. The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry organized the companies’ participation.

The nine companies were:

-Greenlife Coconut Products Phils. Inc., based in Tayabas, Quezon province. The company produces coconut products like Virgin Coconut Oil, VCO Massage Grade, Coconut Sugar, Coconut Jam, VCO Soap and developing more specialty products made out of coconut.

-Team Asia Corp., a manufacturer and supplier of health and lifestyle products. Located in San Juan, Metro Manila, the company makes Virgin Coconut Oil and VCO-based coconut products, Refined Bleached Deodorized Oil, coconut sugar, coconut milk powder, coconut honey that are sold in international and domestic markets.

Part of an Outbound Business Matching Mission from the Philippines to the USA, the delegation to the Kosherfest aims to increase exports of premium value food products, according to a statement.

Participants to Kosherfest come from food products manufacturers, chain supermarkets, corner groceries, foodservice establishments to caterers. More than 6,000 industry professionals attended, and more than 325 exhibitors featured Kosher-certified products and services for the Kosher market. The expo was dominated by exhibitors from the United States and Israel, with some Asian countries, such as India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines, represented by producers and suppliers of certified Kosher foods.
