Los Angeles artist Lynda Reyes has been chosen to exhibit at the ‘Bound:’ Women’s Caucus for the Art Juried Exhibit in New York. The exhibit is being held at the Phoenix Gallery on Eleventh Avenue until February 23rd.

Reyes said her oil painting “White Walls” was chosen for the group show. Juried by Cora Rosevear, associate curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibition represents multiple expressions of commentary on the interpretation of bound and borders. Such interpretations may be “internal, external, constructed, imagined, imposed, or embraced and how boundaries define and shape our identities, relationships, ideas and politics,” says a press statement.

The exhibition will showcase 24 works and one performance piece by artists from all over the U.S.

Lynda shared her thoughts on the theme of her art: “Every day, I could be bound between empty walls while someone looks the other way. I ask myself: Could this be imaginary?
“Those white walls are not actually enclosing me! They are not enclosing you, either! They could be our canvas for life!

“We can expand on those walls. Nobody can do it for us. I can create on them. You can create on them.

“Endless possibilities abound on every white canvas we encounter in life. I say to myself and to you: Explore, expand, and create. The artist in us can do it! Erase the blank.”

Lynda is a visual artist, an art historian, an author and an art educator. She has participated in juried exhibitions all over the country, the most recent at the 2012 TAG California Open Exhibition at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica.

In the Philippines, she had a one-person show at the University of the Philippines Manila and several group shows at the Solidaridad Galleries.

She has gained awards for her landscape paintings in oil. Her “Rush Hour Jam” received second place in the Glendale Art Association 2012 Fall Salon Exhibit. Her painting “California Grandpa” will be published in the “Splash 14: Line and Color” and has appeared in art
magazines.

Lynda is a full-time artist and has been painting since 1973. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree major in painting from the Philippines and holds an MA in Art History from Northern Illinois University.
