This fall, dive into the Filipino-speaking world of The Filipino School of New York & New Jersey’s Ang Mundong Pilipino.

During this nine-week program, your child will learn the basics of Filipino and some aspects of Philippine history and culture through various interactive games, song, arts and crafts projects, Philippine folk dances, and other fun activities! The first hour is the language and cultural portion, followed by one hour of folk dance instruction. Instructors for this semester are Joffin-Mari Motykova and Maria Deauna.

Joffin-Mari Motykova

Born and raised in the land of buko pie and natural hot springs, Joffin-Mari Motykova comes from a long line of educators. She finished her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts Major in Writing from the University of the Philippines Los Banos, and her Master of Science degree in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University. This September marks Joffin’s 19th year of teaching. At an early age, Joffin has enjoyed listening to stories from her grandparents. These stories fueled her interest and passion in reading Philippine and international mythology and folklore. Joffin lives with her husband in Closter, New Jersey.

Maria Teresa Deauna was born and raised in Las Pinas City, Philippines. She now lives in Hackensack, N.J. with her husband and two teenage kids. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree but later realized that her calling was to be a teacher. Maria was a Montessori-trained teacher in the Philippines for eight years. She has been teaching Filipino cultural dances to children and adults since 2010, and her group has performed in various Filipino, school and church events the latest of which is at the 4th Filipino American Festival, Inc. annual festival. The love for dancing began when she was a little girl and has stayed with her until now. That is why you’ll always see her on the dance floor whenever there is line dancing in every Filipino gathering.
