‘Hearts of Men’ offering all-male dance workshop for free

Dancer, choreographer and teacher Leo Arpon is inviting men, ages 14 to 104, to a unique dance workshop called “Hearts of Men.”

“No experience necessary, and it’s free,” said the Israel-born Leo in an email sent to The FilAm.

“Hearts of Men” is a two-week dance and movement workshop from August 23rd to September 7th to be held at Montclair State University. It will offer classes in movement, improvisation, storytelling/sharing, repertory, culminating in performances on September 6th and 7th.

“The only criteria is the love for movement,” HOM says in an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.

Leo will be one of the choreographers. He said, “I am proud to be assisting and one of the choreographers amongst an amazing line-up of artists collaborating in this inspiring project. I will also be setting a piece dedicated to the Middle East.”
Interested parties may take just one class or the entire two-week workshop. It will be, he said, an opportunity for collaboration in movement, dance, music and art.

Fredrick Earl Mosley, founder and director of HOM, said, “It is most important to make sure that the cost of tuition and transportation does not prevent anyone from participating in this transformational workshop.”

He believes in mentoring young dancers and helping them decide what it is they wish to do with their lives, whether it involves dance as a professional career or a stepping stone to head in a positive direction. “I think dance is one of the best ways to help young minds and hearts find their way in the world,” he said.
