Actress Samantha Cutaran: Building a community of FilipinX Barkada in greater Hollywood

She was raised in a family of nurses and engineers, and the first in her family to forge a career in the arts.

Renee arrives in Louisville looking for a fresh start after years spent caring for her mother. Jaded and emotionally guarded, she has begun to question whether life holds any greater meaning beyond simply making the best of whatever comes our way.

Then she reluctantly falls in love with Sam, an astronomy professor who sees wonder in the universe, possibility in people, and purpose in the seemingly random events of life. His fascination with the Star of Bethlehem—and his belief that the biblical account aligns with actual astronomical events—reflects a deeper conviction: that faith and science don’t have to exist at odds, and that the things we can’t always explain may be pointing us toward something greater.

As their unexpected connection deepens, Sam challenges Renee to reconsider the beliefs that have kept her at a distance from life. What begins as skepticism slowly gives way to curiosity, then to something she hasn’t felt in a long time: hope. For the first time, Renee allows herself to move beyond simply surviving and begins to embrace the possibility that her life—and the future ahead of her—may hold far more than she imagined.

In “Just One Life,” Filipino American actress Samantha Cutaran steps into the role of Renee, bringing warmth, wit, and emotional depth to a woman navigating love, loss, and the unexpected ways one life can impact another. At its heart, the film asks a simple but powerful question: “What will you do with the life you’ve been given?”

Off screen, Samantha is deeply invested in building community within the entertainment industry. She is a proud member and facilitator of FilipinX Actors Barkada, a collective of Filipino actors in the greater Hollywood community centered on craft, resource-sharing, and mutual support. She is also an advocate for mental health and believes in creating spaces where artists can grow, connect, and feel supported.

Samantha is cast as Tracy in ‘Abbott Elementary’
As Nurse Gail Gwyneth in ‘General Hospital’

Samantha lives in Los Angeles with her husband, Chris Devlin; their newborn son, Declan Phoenix, whose diapers she studies like a forensic scientist; and their mischievous Blue Heeler, Roxy Heart the Smoke Bandit—who remains under investigation.

Raised in Central California in a family of nurses and engineers, Samantha became the first in her family to forge a career in the arts. She went on to earn her BFA in Theater from NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, with additional training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

With a natural ability to balance strength, humor, and vulnerability, Samantha has built an impressive body of work across television and film. Her credits include Abbott Elementary, Criminal Minds, Home Economics, S.W.A.T., The Neighborhood, Not Dead Yet, Bosch: Legacy, Murderville, Call Me Kat, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., NCIS: Los Angeles, and General Hospital. Her performance as Lida on House offered an early glimpse of the emotional honesty and grounded presence that have become signatures of her work.

“’Just One Life’” is a warm, heartfelt story about love, faith, second chances, and the people who help us see the beauty and purpose in our lives,” says Samantha of her new film,“even when we don’t have all the answers.”
