On June 21, 2024, brace yourselves for the launch of a social platform for mutual support for conversation and action of women leaders and media in New York – the Women & Media (WAM) Café.

Organized by Marivir Montebon of Awesome Media, Ltd. and Cristina DC Pastor, founding editor of TheFilAm.net, WAM will be launched alongside the nonprofit Women’s Immigration and Communications Café (WICCAFE) at the Philippine Center Kalayaan Hall on 556 5th Avenue, New York, 6-9 p.m.

Carla Mongado is the featured entertainer.

WAM Café is an innovative effort by Montebon and Pastor where women, community leaders, media practitioners and journalists share a collaborative space for visibility and action.

The WAM Café launch will have two featured events, a forum and a concert. A ‘women’s situationer’ will be presented by Atty. Anne del Castillo, senior legal advisor of the NYC   Department of Cultural Affairs; Cielo Buenaventura, assistant Art editor of The New York Times; and Anne Branigin, reporter of the Washington Post. The rest of the evening will be the Short Stories concert featuring off-Broadway performer Carla Mongado in a poignant ‘Filipina in the diaspora’ repertoire.

WICCAFE is a nonprofit formed by Montebon in 2018 to provide immigrants a platform for their stories and women’s rights advocates to provide professional assistance as needed.

WAM is a hub for women and media to simply gather and provide mutual support and safe spaces for conversation and action.
