Theater artists invite the public to their wedding reception

Best wishes to Angelo Soriano and Angelica Stiskin.

On May 17, “Aladdin” actor Angelo Soriano will wed modern dance choreographer Angelica Stiskin.

Instead of a traditional reception where the newlyweds are expected to dance the joyous night away with a cutting of the cake and a toss of the bouquet, they will hold an art festival. The festival – to be called The Event — will be held two days later, on May 19 in The West Village.

“My soon-to-be-wife Angelica and I have forwent the idea of a traditional wedding reception and instead, we are producing an Art Festival,” said Angelo in a statement. “We wanted to spend our money on the artists that thrive among our community and give a platform for our talented friends to perform.”

Everyone is invited and tickets will be sold.

Angelo and Angelica’s  tribe of creative friends will be performing. Singer composer Inyang Bassey, spoken word artistLauren Cox, dancers: Brianna Mercado and Maria Cherniske, caricaturist Eltsahfahn Vanterpool, sculpturist Moises Soares  and breakdancer Freddy “Frenzy” Munozare just some of the artists expected to showcase their craft and provide entertainment. “Together, we’ve linked our network of artists to be part of our celebration,” said Angelo.

The couple met in 2011 when they danced together at Walt Disney World’s “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas.”

“Our first year together, we lived apart,” he told The FilAm. “I worked in Los Angeles and she to New York City. When I finally made the big move to come to NYC, I quickly booked the National Tour of ‘Flashdance: The Musical’ where I set foot on the road for another year.”

Angelo would be cast in “Aladdin” on Broadway and has since been performing as a swing for four years. He assumes many different roles, including the principals Aladdin and the adorable villain Iago. This highly focused actor has the capability to jump in and take on any of the 12 male tracks at any given time. “I make sure all the lines, the songs, the dance moves are in my body, in my head,” he said in a 2016 interview with The FilAm and Makilala TV.

Angelica has since become the artistic director of Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz & Contemporary Program and an adjunct professor at Marymount Manhattan College. Internationally recognized for her versatility as a choreographer, director, performer, and dance educator, she has assisted the Emmy Award-winning Mia Michaels and has performed with Justin Bieber and The Disney Channel’s Shake It Up girls for the nationally televised Disney’s Christmas Day Parade.

It will be a wedding reception like no other. The Event promises to be a “curated scene of live art, including painting, wire installation, caricature drawing, immersive dance, displays of photography and fashion,” said the couple.
