Beauty pageant blogger Adam Genato: Life is a Red Carpet
By Wendell GaaBeauty pageant blogger Adam Genato is living proof of how an everyday Filipino in Manila can work hard and play even harder.
Genato runs his family’s real estate and construction business in the Philippines. On the side, he is a beauty pageant and entertainment blogger. His film and fashion blog, HeyAdamGenato.wordpress.com, is followed closely by legions of readers looking for the latest trends in looks and fashion.
Through his blog, he has travelled to New York and L.A. and other cities wherever the lush Red Carpet beckons. He considers former American Idol host Ryan Seacrest his benchmark for being a successful entertainment personality. He met Seacrest in 2009, recalling to this writer how “seeing and chasing him down” at his office headquarters in L.A. was an indescribable high.
“The mere fact that he gave time to see me at his office lobby was really amazing,” he said.
Adam’s tireless, insightful work has prompted his editor to assign him to cover Manila’s major beauty pageants, including the annual Binibining Pilipinas pageant which yearly crowns Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss World. His work has even garnered the attention of the local media here in Manila. He appeared as a pageant analyst on CNN Philippines last January when Manila hosted the Miss Universe pageant.
That experience was “one for the books, one of the highlights of my life so far,” he said.
Access to some of the nation’s beauty legends — such as Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray, and Miss Universe Philippines 2010 Venus Raj — comes naturally for him.
Adam has further had the chance to rub shoulders with Hollywood celebrities, with no other opportunity being more evident than when he won a contest sponsored by the Lifestyle Network to win a ticket to fly to Hollywood to attend the 2015 Oscars! He asserted his in-depth knowledge of classic films when he ranked the highest among the contest participants in correctly guessing 23 out of 24 Oscar winners. Donning his chic and suave black tux, he experienced closeup views of the Red Carpet walked across by Anna Kendrik, Kerry Washington, Octavia Spencer, John Legend, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep, to name only a few.
A 2003 graduate of De La Salle University from where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Management of Financial Institutions, Adam hopes to eventually get assigned to travel abroad to cover international pageants.
“I prefer to travel to anywhere where Miss Universe is being held, that is like the Oscars of beauty pageantry”!
Eventually, he also aspires to one day host his own TV talk show and open a public relations firm that would represent both local and Hollywood celebrities. To those who wish to follow his line of work, he only has to say, “Never lose your patience in waiting for your big break, if you’re not willing to wait for it, it’s probably not meant for you.”
Failure or disappointment is part of the whole process, he said, as he urged newbie bloggers to “just keep grinding.”
