Congratulations to the Class of 2015!

Remember all those sepia snapshots of our parents and elders occupying a special spot in our homes? They weren’t put there for adornment, but to establish significant milestones, like first births and weddings.

A cap, a gown, and a cautious smile. Within a frame, they’re worth everything in the world to many Filipino families, who value education as a pathway to a successful future for their children. Never mind that once in a rare while, we hear of a college dropout who created the largest social networking site called Facebook, and learn of some Ph.D. graduates who find work as janitors, according to economist Richard Vedder in his book, “Going Broke by Degree: Why College Costs Too Much.”

To my family and friends who belong to the Class of 2015, congratulations to all of you! May graduation unlock more doors and lead you to a world full of intoxicating possibilities. — Cristina DC Pastor
