Original Philippine Music is the inspiration behind the April 27 concert of Cecile Azarcon and the Sounds of Manila at the Peter Norton Symphony Space at 2537 Broadway and 95th Street.

“The concert will be a musical tribute to celebrate composer Cecile Azarcon’s timeless pop songs,” said Grace Labaguis, marketing director of Synergy Productions, which is producing the event.

Azarcon is the composer behind some of the pop hits of Freddie Aguilar, Kuh Ledesma, Martin Nievera, and Basil Valdez. More than 35 years later, her music continues to be heard on television and radio whether in its original form or given a contemporary rendition.

“The time is also ripe to introduce Azarcon’s melodious love songs such as ‘Even If,’ ‘I Think I’m In Love,’ and ‘How Did You Know,’ newly rearranged by the renowned musical director Lorrie Ilustre, and interpreted by Sounds of Manila, a band that produces an authentic ‘70s, ‘80s Manila sound, to a more diverse group of concertgoers,” Labaguis added.

Joining Azarcon, Ilustre, and Sounds of Manila in the one-night-only concert are young vocalists Tiffany Viray, Jared Martin, Arnel Arcedo, and Tony Gado; and guitarist Carlo Tampac of Chapter 2 band.
