Jersey City violinist to perform in Dec. 8 winter concert
Ryan Ramos of Jersey City will perform in the Greater Newark Youth Orchestra’s 24th annual winter concert on Sunday, December 8, at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway.The program showcases New Jersey’s student musicians in one concert. They include the Greater Newark Youth Orchestra (GNYO), the Greater Newark Chamber Orchestra (GNCO) and Greater Newark Violin Ensemble (GNVE).
GNYO, under the baton of conductor Jeffrey Grogan of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, will perform Gioachino Rossini’s “Barber of Seville Overture” and Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s “Danzon No. 2,” among the opera masterpieces in its repertoire.
Ryan,13, is one of two children of doctors Rey and Leonor Ramos. He has an older sister, Leona. An eighth grader at St. Aloysius Elementary Academy in Jersey City, he has been playing the violin since he was 6, according to his mother.
The violin is just one of the musical instruments he has mastered.
“He also knows how to play the piano, the guitar and the saxophone,” said Leonor.
“When I saw Ryan perform at the Bantay Bata Sing for Kids event last August 28th, I was amazed at his extraordinary talent,” said Ledy Almadin, a community advocate from New Jersey. “Ryan is one of our community’s Pinoy Pride.”
