Are you one of those still wondering where historic Filipinotown is? The Pilipino Workers Center invites everyone to explore the cultural gems of Historic Filipinotown (aka Hi-Fi) during its “Team Scavenger Hunt” July 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon to celebrate Hi-Fi’s founding and anniversary.

PWC Executive Director Aqui Soriano Versoza announced the fun event and fundraiser will include challenges distinctively “Pinoys” from a Balut eating contest to dancing Tinikling to the beat of Bebot by the Black Eyed Peas! “This is a chance to discover Historic Filipinotown and at the same time support the projects of Pilipino Workers Center”.

Hidden Hi-Fi is a 2 hour challenge from 10am – 12pm where teams will have a chance to explore Historic Filipinotown while also completing many different cultural Filipino challenges.

It will also test one’s ability to strategize. Challenges range from food and language to traditional dance.

In addition to the challenges, the teams will be given clues that will take them all around Historic Filipinotown, and see places many didn’t know existed.

They may find themselves meeting a little-known community hero, tasting a Filipino food challenge or receiving their very own Filipino nickname!

Participants are asked to register and form a Team to join the “Hunt” and use their skills to solve clues, find hidden treasures and take cultural challenges. To register, call 213 – 250 – 4353 or log on to info@pwcsc.org.

Contestants will get to visit different historical sites in the neighborhood as well as get a chance to catch a ride in an authentic Sarao Jeepney from the Philippines.

“Many may find it difficult to solve all of the clues within the time limit. It’ll be up to the teams to strategize how best to use their time – and each other – to correctly solve as many clues and challenges as possible, says Versoza.

Participants will be having a blast while building their bayanihan spirit (spirit of collective volunteerism to help others) by asking friends and family and even their Facebook fans to donate money to sponsor you and your Team to take this challenge,” she continued.

PWC will provide materials and online tools to make the process fun and easy. Each team can choose their fundraising goal. Everyone is asked to register by July 24, 2015.

Here are some guidelines from PWC:

Teams are made up of at least 2 and up to 4 people. Give yourself a Team name (example: “Hi Fi History-makers”). Each team must assign 1 captain. That person must be comfortable working with the judges and will receive all email communications leading up to the event. All ages are welcome!

We just ask that if you have children on your team that the adult be your team captain. Everyone on your team will get their very own Hidden Hi Fi t-shirt! Teams participating on behalf of an organization will have the chance to have their organization’s logo displayed on the back of their team t-shirts.
