OPM singer Odette Quesada performs her hits on January 17
Original Pilipino Music (OPM) takes center stage in “Odette Quesada GOLD” on January 17, 2015 at the Celebrity Center International in Hollywood. The concert features the singer/songwriter performing her bestselling songs with guest performers singer/comedienne Fe delos Reyes, Lara Avengoza, Erwin Andaya, and Sarah Lazatin, backed by a live band, with the special participation of cellist Matthew John Ignacio.Quesada first gained fame when she won second place at the 1982 Metro Manila Pop Music Festival with the song “Give Me a Chance” as performed by Ric Segreto. The following year, 1983, she snagged first place with “Til I Met You” performed by the Philippines’ premier Diva at the time, Ms. Kuh Ledesma.
The rest of the 80s was filled with her music – most sang by the era’s superstars. “Don’t Know What To Do, Don’t Know What To Say” is still a monster hit, first performed by the late Ric Segreto. “I Need You Back” and “Farewell” were back to back hits for then teen star Raymond Lauchengco, who appeared in the movie “Bagets” which had for its theme song another of Odette’s hit songs – “Growing Up”, performed by Gary Valenciano. “To Love Again” was sung by Sharon Cuneta for her movie of the same title.
While Quesada started out as a songwriter, it didn’t take long for her to embark on her own singing career. Songs like “Friend of Mine”, “You’re My Home”, “Dito Lang” and “Wala Nang Nasa Isip” were hits that featured the songwriter’s unique voice and singing style.
Her career was not limited to the pop music scene. Quesada spent the early 90’s writing commercial jingles and producing albums with her late husband Bodjie Dasig. Together they produced albums for Ric Segreto, Ariel Rivera, Rachel Alejandro, Vina Morales, Lani Misalucha, Kuh Ledesma, Fe Delos Reyes, Marco Sison and Nora Aunor.
Other artists who have recorded Quesada’s songs are: Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez, Jed Madela, Aiza Seguerra, MYMP, Piolo Pascual, Ding Dong Avanzado, Joey Albert, and Angeline Quinto to name a few.
