Writer to speak on gender, blogging at Princeton forum

Nathan awardee Randy Gener

Writer and arts critic Randy Gener will be part of a panel discussion on “Theatre Criticism, Gender and Blogging” at Princeton University on April 28 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is a celebration of The Feminist Spectator’s winning of the Nathan Award this year, the first blog to win the George Jean Nathan Award. Randy was himself a recipient of the Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism, the first and only Asian American to win the award in its 50-plus history.

“I am deeply honored to take part in this illustrious occasion,” he said.

With Randy in the panel are Karen Fricker of The Guardian and Royal Holloway University in London; Bonnie Marranca of the Performing Arts Journal; Alisa Solomon of Columbia, and moderator Jill Dolan of Princeton and The Feminist Spectator. Randy will represent Critical Stages web journal and American Theatre Magazine.

Panelists will address the gender — and race — imbalances and inequities in contemporary criticism, and discuss alternative venues for publishing in-depth writing on current performance and theatre. The panel will also assess the continuing importance of arts criticism and commentary.

The proceedings will begin at 2 p.m. in Prospect House on the Princeton campus. Prospect House can be located here.
