SOCIAL CLIMBER: Farah Angsana’s one-dimensional luxury

Images of Marshall’s sale rack never left my head after I viewed Farah Angsana’s Fall/Winter ‘12 collection for the New York Fashion Week.

What the Indonesian-born designer may have lacked in design diversity, she made up for with the use of stunning colors and elaborate embroidery for texture. Fine detailing of sequins and crystals added a dimension of luxury to otherwise monotonous gowns.

Farah’s design philosophy that “fashion changes, but style is eternal” probably explains what some – including myself – dismiss as creative limitation. She plays up colors and appears to have a preference for what’s most striking – peach oranges, forest greens, Persian blues. Grays and whites were also in abundance.

The Zurich-based Farah said her dresses say a lot about herself as a world traveler. “High glamour and culture” is the theme of this year’s collection. Farah’s creations have graced red carpet and high society balls in Paris, Dubai and New York.

By having flashy colors join forces with sparkling adornments, Farah created a lively collection. Eye-catching, yes, but nothing to make you swoon.
