For several years now, GMA International (GMAI) won three awards for its multicultural programming through GMA Pinoy TV, a leading broadcast company in the Philippines.

GMAI bagged three awards from NAMIC or the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications for Excellence in Multicultural Marketing Awards (EMMA) in New York. The Manila network joins big names in the global and entertainment industry, such as NBC and Comcast, which have previously been recipients of the EMMA Awards.

Winning first place in the Television category is the episode, “Becoming Pinoy: Sameera Aguilar.” This special short-form content featured a Filipino mother living in Dubai, who struggles to pass on to her half-Pinoy/half-Emirati children the culture and traditions from the Philippines. “Becoming Pinoy” aired worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV.

GMA likewise placed first for the “Social Media Take-Over: Alden Richards.” The Pambansang Bae online event brought online users from all over the world with the artist during his Singapore adventure through GMAI’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Exclusive content and live videos reached almost 2 million people and yielded more than 300,000 worth of engagements. Alden has amassed a huge and devoted following worldwide as one-half of the phenomenal Filipino love team, “AlDub.”

GMAI led in the Diversity Awareness category for its “Becoming Pinoy: Reggie Lee” entry, part of a series that profiles Filipinos born and raised in different cultures and those of mixed ancestry.

GMAI’s First Vice President and Head of Operations Joseph Francia expressed pride over the recognition. He said the EMMA Awards is not just for the network but for Filipinos all over the world.

“We at GMAI are grateful to be among some of the most well-known brands in the global media and entertainment industry to be recognized with EMMAs this year,” said Francia. “Viewing habits are changing and we are challenged every day to reach and engage our various audiences through relevant and resonant messaging on television, social media, and other outlets.” He shared the awards with “faithful subscribers” of GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International around the world.

The EMMA honors marketing efforts that are excellently designed for culturally diverse audiences and customers in North America. The prestigious award-giving body held its awarding ceremonies at the Marriot Marquis in New York on September 26.

“We’d like to congratulate GMA Network and GMA International for three first place wins this year. The EMMA is the only awards program that recognizes top marketing tactics and campaigns in the industry,” said Susan Waldman, NAMIC’s senior manager for Membership and Publications.

GMAI now belongs to EMMA’s illustrious winners’ circle, which includes key players in the global media and entertainment industry such as Comcast, Bell Canada, VH1, and NBCUniversal Hispanic Group. Winning entries from GMA were also profiled in top cable business magazine CableFax.

The EMMA is an annual competition organized by NAMIC, the premier organization that educates, advocates and empowers for multi-ethnic diversity in communications industry worldwide. Since its launch in 2005, GMA Pinoy TV has consistently earned recognition from the award-giving body.
