Filipino American beauty Megan Young will be in New York from October 22 to fulfill scheduled engagements as the newly-crowned Miss World. She will proceed to California later in the week.

In New York, she will have a series of press interviews and social appearances in the company of Miss World Chairperson Julia Morley.

“Reigning Miss World is on her way to the United States of America this morning (Oct. 22) to spend the week in New York & Los Angeles,” says a Miss World press statement. “She will land in New York on Monday afternoon, where she will be taking in the sights and taking part in a series of interviews and appearances.”

She will also be attending the Variety, The Children’s Charity Mid-Winter meeting in Los Angeles later this week.

Young will have a lot to talk about, among them the pre-title controversy about her alleged racy photos and how she is now an advocate for abstinence before marriage.

In an article on LifeSiteNews.com earlier this week Young said she believes “sex is for marriage.” She said if someone tries to push you into sex, “you step away because that person doesn’t value you.”

Young became the Philippines’ first Miss World titleholder winning over 126 candidates in September. Young, a Filipino-American who was born in Virginia, said she is pro-life and is against abortion because it means “killing someone who’s already there.”

The LifeSiteNews article posted a link to a video where Young stated her views on the Philippines’ controversial Reproductive Health (RH) law. The law has been temporarily halted by the Supreme Court after opponents filed a petition questioning its constitutionality.

Young was embroiled in a controversy before the September 28 Miss World coronation night in Bali, Indonesia after news surfaced about her raunchy photos for a Philippine magazine. These are the same photos that disqualified her for the 2013 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, a Yahoo report said.

The 23-year-old actress-turned-beauty queen is a film student at De La Salle College of Saint Benilde in Manila, a Catholic school.

A reader writes to IBTimes UK: “Rules are rules when it comes to the Miss World beauty contest it seems that contestants’ taking their clothes off is a clear breach of the laws.”

“A beauty queen is somebody that is a good role model inside and out and obviously is a beautiful person. It’s not just about exterior beauty; a beauty queen has to have outstanding morals, elegance, femininity and class. And that’s what everybody thinks it is. Beauty queens should be seen as role models not sex object,” the reader added.

However, Miss World Philippines franchise holder Cory Quirino dismissed allegations of “immorality” calling it a “smear campaign by a negligible sector of the Philippine pageant industry.”

Young is also expected to be asked questions about a statement about a blogger named Devina DeDiva who made racist comments about Young and Filipinos in general.

“Miss Philippines is Miss World? What a joke! I did not know those maids have anything else in them, Ha Ha Ha,” DeDiva said. She also labeled Filipinas as “poor,” “smelly from cleaning toilets” and “underprivileged.”

Young’s legions of netizen supporters rushed to her defense. Anthony Benedicto, a Filipino based in Singapore, filed a sedition charge against DeDiva, who is believed to be a Singaporean resident, who faces a fine of $5,000 or three years in jail or both if found guilty.

“Thank you for winning the crown. You made us proud. Well deserved. Congratulations,” writes Marlene Cunanan Braganza.

From Jake Mercado II: “A global example of a world- class Pinay.”

She is beautiful. However, if she is an American of Filipino decent, how can she legally represent the Philippines in the Miss World contest. I’m confused. Please explain.
