The Filipino School of New York & New Jersey will open a second location in the fall. FilAm parents may enroll their students for language and culture classes at the office of Nodutdol for Korean Community Development located at 53-22 Roosevelt Avenue, 2nd Floor in Woodside.

The eight-week fall/winter semester is now accepting enrollment for children ages 4 through 12. Classes are every other Saturday from 11a.m. to 12 noon, from September 15 through December 15.

In the Karanasang Pilipino, 2.0 (Filipino Experience, 2.0) program, students will be able to explore and associate with the Philippine culture. The goal is to connect their learning experience to understanding who they are today, and how to maintain that connection with the Philippines and to be proud of being Filipino, said FilSchool founder Venessa Manzano.

“Various learning and teaching methods will be used to ensure a fun, yet educational experience.”

There will be guest instructors who will share their love, passion and expertise of Philippine culture with the students.

The school first opened to the public in Jersey City in January 2011 and has served over 75 students in the New York and New Jersey areas. Its signature programs are its theme-based Filipino language and cultural programs for children that run throughout the academic year, Philippine folk dance program and its adult conversational Tagalog program, levels I and II.

Venessa said the curriculum follows both the New York State Education Department’s Learning Standards for the Arts and the State of New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards for Language Arts Literacy. In 2011, it was honored with a TOFA-NY’s award in the Youth & Sports category.
