There’s a significant contingent of Filipino and FilAm films at this year’s Asian American International Film Festival, including ‘Ulam: Main Dish,’ a documentary on how Filipino chefs are breaking barriers in America.

‘Ulam’ will be the festival’s Closing Night presentation. The Asia Society will host the screening and reception on August 4.

Among the selections is ‘1-2-3 Gasping for Air’ directed by Carlo Obispo whose ‘Purok 7’ was a hit at last year’s annual New York Consulate filmfest, Sinehan sa Summer. 1-2-3 is produced by TBA Studios whose acclaimed productions include ‘Heneral Luna,’ ‘Birdshot,’ ‘K’na: The Dreamweaver,’ ‘Sunday Beauty Queen,’ and ‘Women of the Weeping River.’ The producers are currently working on the finishing touches of the followup to ‘Heneral Luna,’ the film ‘Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.’ It is based on the loves and exploits of Gregorio del Pilar, one of the youngest generals of the Philippine revolution.
