The memoir “Don’t Forget the Soap: And Other Reminders from my Fabulous Filipina Mother” by new author Marie Claire Lim Moore, debuted on top of Amazon’s Hot New Releases and has been reaping rave reviews since its September 17th launch at the Philippine Center.

Reader Estela Reyes writes on Amazon how the book is an “excellent how-to manual about living the immigrant experience.”

Jose Hunt, who identifies himself as a Mexican-American immigrant, says Lim Moore’s book is a “mix of childhood memoir, immigrant experiences and mother-knows-best” stories.

More than 150 people attended the book event and lauded Lim-Moore and the inspiring figure behind the book, her Filipina mother and renowned artist, Lenore Lim.

During the launch, Lim Moore said she often got asked why she wrote the book and how she came up with the title.

“When we were growing up, my parents were new immigrants to Canada and the United States. We had everything we needed, but it was a simple life. Socializing took place at each other’s homes. We very rarely went out to eat and if we did travel somewhere, we stayed with family so hotels were extremely special. When we began staying at hotels, the little soap and shampoo bottles were so novel. We would take or send them back to the Philippines and it would be such a special treat to anyone who received them.”

“I have always enjoyed writing and for a long time now, I’ve been thinking about writing a book on things I’ve learned from my mother,” she said. “I could never have executed this project without her support, her network, and her deadlines.”

Lim Moore and her mother will be in Manila for a “Don’t Forget the Soap” book launch and signing on December 6, 2013 at Fully Booked in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.
